Like all poets I like to push the boundaries of poetry – this has drawn me to performance poetry, and uniquely artistic collaborations. I am always searching for new ways to make arts’ timelessness relevant and accessible to contemporary audiences.
I am an entertainer: my work with creative institutions creating bespoke performances, with poetry at the centre, seeks to educate people about the influence of poetry on the arts . The key for me is to keep on finding ways for people to develop their own unique understanding of art, poetry, and the artists themselves . Most recently I have made two films about the Romantic Poets, highlight the contemporary relevance of Keats and Shelley to young audiences.
My frieze for Eric Parry Architects, ‘Cento’ covers the external walls of a building at the Chelsea Barracks development and is carved from Portuguese Limestone and stands as the longest verse inscription in the West. ‘Cento’ is 3,000 characters long and carved from Portuguese Limestone—The poem is a vital part of the building, engaging with the city’s history, gardens, and development ; inviting residents and passersby to engage as readers and composers of their own poems.
Most recently I have launched a podcast with Richard Uridge : Pele’s Poetry Podcast; which explores the secrets of poetry and poetry writing.
