Here are some very kind things people have said and written about me – as a poet, as a film maker and as a coach. If you’d like a more formal reference before deciding whether I can help you blossom let me know and I’ll put you in touch with someone who’ll give you a frank assessment of my abilities.

‘Pelé Cox is an accomplished writer and a wonderful instructor in creative writing. At time she was the Poet in Residence at London’s Royal Academy of Arts, she also held a slightly less public position – Pelé was my writing “coach”. I was keen to sharpen my abilities in short fiction, and Pelé introduced me to new literature and new approaches to writing. The first book she gave me was Raymond Carver’s final work, “A New Path to the Waterfall”. Whether we were discussing Graham Greene or Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Cormac McCarthy or Camus, our sessions were a highlight of my week and gave me ideas to put to work. I appreciated her exquisite taste in literature, love for the written word, and sensitivity to the human condition.’

‘Pelé is the perfect teacher. Using innovative and engaging methods, she not only improves your technical skills but also takes you back to fundamentals by helping you consider what is really important. I was very satisfied with the whole process.’

‘For five years I have seen first hand how Pelé’s writing workshops benefit an individuals ability to communicate. Her tutorials have a real effect on how we communicate ourselves in the financial industry. Watching her use the power of poetry to transform our professional practice is like seeing sight given to the blind.’
Stuart Macdonald – Bride Valley Partners / The Naked Short Club

‘The experience of taking a few hours out from the demands of a frantic business life is revealing.  Our small group started with a short discussion of what reading meant to each of us – what we had liked and hadn’t; any formative experiences with books or other writing. We moved on to read a piece or two that we had each brought for the purpose, ranging from an extract from an arch self-help book in the popular American style to a piece of idiosyncratically translated Homer in which Achilles stamps through a river all over some enemy combatants. Each time we talked through why that piece was chosen, led by Pelé Cox. The act was both relaxing and engaging and the irritations of the daily grind fell away as we thought about communicating and how it is and isn’t achieved. This was an effective antidote to the debased type of language that we all read and hear every day that serves to obscure meaning instead of conveying it. There were no weasel words, no use of ‘issues around’  or ‘lessons learnt’, those phrases that really mean “I don’t want to think about this now, so let’s just hurry past this subject”. Instead we talked of what the writers intent, whether to reveal or divert and how this was achieved. We all felt that we knew each other better at the end and all had a chance of saying what we meant from then on. What a great way to bind a team and help them talk sense.’
