Like all poets I like to push the boundaries of poetry which has drawn me into film, live performance and uniquely artistic collaborations. I am always searching for new ways to make arts’ timelessness relevant and accessible to contemporary audiences.
I believe poetry can entertain the individual and feed the imagination. My work with creative institutions creating bespoke performances with poetry at the centre, seeks to inspire and educate people about the profound influence of poetry on the arts and artists. The key for me is to keep on finding ways for people to develop their own unique understanding of art, poetry, and the artists themselves .
Most recently I have made two films about the Romantic Poets in order to highlight the contemporary relevance of Keats and Shelley to young audiences.
Eric Parry Architects, commissioned me to compose a poem frieze which I titled, ‘Cento’, it covers the external walls of a building at the Chelsea Barracks development and is laid across four elevations and is the longest verse inscription in the West. The 4000 characters are carved from Portuguese Limestone The poem is a vital part of the building, engaging with the areas history, gardens, and development; inviting residents and passersby to engage as readers and composers of their own poems.
Most recently I have launched a podcast with Richard Uridge : Pele’s Poetry Podcast; which explores the secrets of poetry and poetry writing.
